Our Mission
Welcome to Tempest Game Studio, a small video game designing club based in Catlin Gabel School, Portland Oregon. We've compiled a diverse team of hardworking students to compete in the Oregon Game Project Challenge, while also supporting our community of independent programmers, artists, musicians, and more with their own ambitions.
Creativity
Creativity is essential in game design. We take it's important value to heart, and encourage all of our members to share their unique ideas and use their distinct lived experience to craft a never-before-seen world. We empower our members to experiment and make mistakes, to learn as much as they can while traveling down their own path of knowledge. We celebrate the infinite possibilities that emerge when technology and creativity collide.

Curiosity
Curiosity feeds growth. We encourage students to learn as much as possible from the game designing process, and so long as everyone gains experience, we consider our work a success! It's important to take risks by asking questions, be it to learn a new skill or to better ourselves and our community. We strive to instill a sense of curiosity within each and every member of TGS, helping to expand their horizons, encourage innovation, and expand our knowledge and capabilities within the ever-changing world!

Collaboration
Collaboration is the lifeblood of TGS. We thrive on teamwork and the union of unique perspectives and ideas. We believe that each student has a story to tell, and by listening to all of our members we can create an intricate and incredible world. We want to leave students with a powerful tool as they move out into the world, and developing collaborative techniques can help them bloom. We support a community where everyone's voice can be heard, and everyone has a positive impact on our work.

What is the Oregon Game Project Challenge?
The Oregon Game Project Challenge (OGPC) is a game development competition for middle and high schoolers alike. Each fall, the OGPC reveals a new theme for the year's competition, which is to be incorporated into a game created over the following months. In May, competitors from around Oregon gather together to play each-other's games, hear from guest speakers, and mingle with the expansive game development community. Despite being a competition intended to put participants' skills to the test, the OGPC is so much more. It is an opportunity for students to harness their enthusiasm and interests and push them to write code, create art and music, build magical worlds, and engineer unique gameplay. The OGPC encourages interaction between students state-wide, and provides them with the resources to continue their journey through the worlds of technology, programming, engineering, and artistic expression.
